Feral pigs are not a typical sight in Mount Isa, but for the last few weeks they have been causing headaches for North-West Queensland Soccer. Photo: The pigs are running onto the ground at night and digging holes, much to the surprise of locals. (Audience submitted: Stuart Pascoe) |
The Mount Isa council in north-west Queensland says it will continue to monitor the local soccer ground that has become the playground for feral pigs.
Club spokeswoman Lisa Reddicliffe says the pigs are running onto the ground at night and digging holes, much to the surprise of locals.
"Basically they were in disbelief at first that there was pigs running around our ovals," she said.
She says they have been forced to postpone matches due to the damage.
Mayor Tony McGrady says the drought is to blame as the pigs search for water.
He says council has helped fill in the holes.
"If they keep on coming in, we'll have to look at alternative remedies for the problem," he said.
He is also hoping early rain may stop the pigs.
